Biography
From Lunigiana to Milan
Born in Aulla, Lunigiana, Pier Franco Marcenaro when very young moved to Milan, where in the sixties he met personalities of considerable cultural importance, such as writer and essayist Fernanda Pivano, publisher Inge Feltrinelli, Nobel Prize winner Eugenio Montale, critics Carlo Bo and Roberto Rebora, North American pacifist writers Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac…[4]
At that time he was living just a few steps away from Piazza Duomo and the Teatro alla Scala, and he worked in the nearby headquarters of Banca Popolare di Milano.
Traveling to the East
An enthusiastic scholar of human and spiritual issues, he periodically returned to Lunigiana, where he dedicated himself to meditation on a hill among the woods. One day his thirst for research found an initial direct response when, while seated in meditation in a clearing in the middle of a thick pine forest, a great light flooded all the surrounding environment illuminating the sky and the forest around him and elevating him to a state of consciousness of supreme bliss, beyond time and space. [5]
That same year, in September 1967, he embarked on a long quest, journeying through Greece, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan, and finally arriving in India after traveling over land for almost four months. In this way he deepened his spiritual knowledge, meeting mystics and monks of Orthodox monasteries, Sufis of Islam, and Yogis from the many disciplines of India.[6]
Initiation into the spiritual Way
In January 1968, in New Delhi, he met Sant Kirpal Singh, the greatest Master of Spirituality and life then living, who also served as President of the “World Brotherhood of Religions”, comprising all the major religions of the world. He initiated him into the most elevated spiritual discipline, meditation on the heavenly Light and Harmony, also known today as “Universal Meditation”.
So strong was the impact of this new experience that the young man remained in meditation sitting on a mat for three consecutive days and nights, enraptured in a state of divine ecstasy (Samadhi).[7][8]
He then followed Master for five months on his teaching journeys through North India to the foothills of the Himalayas,[9] personally receiving his spiritual heritage.[10]
Life as a Disciple
Manager at European level
Inspired by his Master, on returning to Italy in 1968, he set himself the difficult goal, for the first time in history, of integrating the elevated Spirituality of the East with the practical activity of the West, through work combined with meditation.[11]
Having become, already at the age of 30, a top-level executive in industry, he held leading positions in major international companies, becoming the Financial Director of one of the most prestigious brands in the world (today with 15,000 employees worldwide).[12] He was a manager capable of dictating guidelines to the European banking system.[13] At the same time he never neglected the practice and teaching of Meditation.
Family life
In December 1969 he married Anna Rita Federigi, with whom he had a daughter, Tiziana, born on 10 January 1971.[14]
Representative and heir of Master Kirpal Singh
In 1968 he became the Representative of Master Kirpal Singh for Italy, and he imparted initiation into the practice of meditation in his name. He operated in this role until 1974[15][16][17].
Then, after the passing of the Great Master (21 August 1974), his spiritual Mission continued.[18][19]
In the role of Master
Master of Spirituality and of life
At the passing of his Master, at the age of 33, he began his own spiritual Mission by imparting the teachings and instructions for the practice of Universal Meditation through the School of Spirituality.
Since then, Master has regularly undertaken journeys for spreading Spirituality both in Italy and in other parts of the world, such as the European Union and Eastern Europe, the Americas, Asia and Africa,[20] the result of which is the continuous increase in the number of disciples on a planetary scale.[21]
School of Spirituality and Universal Meditation
In 1974, Master Pier Franco founded the School of Spirituality, with the elevated objective of spreading, among sincere spiritual seekers in Italy and abroad, the teachings that are at the base of the major philosophies and religions of the world, and the practice of the most ancient and elevated form of meditation: Universal Meditation. [22]
Known by different names through time and place (“Way of the Masters”, “Science of the Soul”, “Way of Spirituality”, “Surat Shabd Yoga”...), it consists in conscious inner contact with the divine Light and Harmony, through the experience imparted by a competent Master. [23]
The School of Spirituality periodically organizes free preparatory courses for the practice of Universal Meditation under the direct inspiration and supervision of Master Pier Franco, who in due course initiates into the spiritual Way all those aspirants who make a sincere request and are found suitable. [24]
The School of Spirituality is now present in more than 60 Italian cities and in 25 different countries, with thousands of disciples all over the world.
The monthly Meetings at the School Headquarters, which have been held since May 1999 in an ancient monastery in the Tuscan hills where Angelo Roncalli, Pope John XXIII, stayed, are always fully booked, with people, coming from Italy and from every part of the world, in search of peace and knowledge of the deepest and most divine part of themselves. There the ancient motto “Ora et labora” is implemented by means of meditation combined with service.[25][26]
Narrations by Master's Disciples
Apparitions of the Master
by Serena Ruggiero, Massa, Italy, June 2015
At the end of the month of May, for two consecutive nights Master Pier Franco Marcenaro appeared to me. It is the Master who manifests with a blinding flash and then very slowly the image becomes more and more clear and in focus: it is Him, his face, his radiant celestial eyes and He communicates with me smiling. The second night, just like the first…
The third day, on the beach, together with my two children, He appears not far from me… with clothes of a radiant white light. Then I discern his aspect as a man all dressed in white with a long white tunic, showing only his pink hands like those of a child and his feet. And He walked on the water of the sea, coming toward me smiling and his whole Being was immersed in immense harmony and peace.
How I met my Master... three months before meeting him
By Rosabel Ascanio Perez, Santa Marta, Colombia
Three months before Master Pier Franco Marcenaro came to Santa Marta, Colombia, in 2007, I had a particular experience while I was meditating.
I saw myself in a place where all humanity was running toward the same point. There were airplanes that sent colored lights into space that seemed like fireworks, and on the ground there were just as many marvelous multi-colored lights, that led all to one place.
I asked a man: “Why is everyone running toward that place?” He answered that a Master had arrived, and so I too went toward the place where everyone was heading, to meet the Master, so I could see Him.
Then one day, when I was in Santa Marta, I saw some poster ads with the photo of the Master Pier Franco Marcenaro which informed about his next conference. So I called a friend and told her that the Master from my experience had arrived in Santa Marta.
From that moment on, my friend and I have been meditating with the Master Pier Franco Marcenaro.
How the Master appeared to me twenty years earlier
by Gloria C. Moroni, Parma
“O Lord, how majestic is Your Name in all the earth!” (Psalms 8,1)
“I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart and I will announce all Your wonders!” (Psalms 9,2)
In 1984 I worked as an accountant in a small firm, where a type of manual accounting was still in use. This allowed me, during my work, to pray to the Lord for dear ones and for other aims.
That year in May, suddenly, in the center of my inner vision, the image of an unknown Gentleman appeared. With a serious look, he mentally, without speaking, dictated to me two addresses, one in Lucca,(1) with the street and number, and one in Torre del Lago.(2)
Surprised I asked myself who this unknown person was and why he appeared in my inner vision. His image persisted and finally the two addresses appeared written below. I could not explain this to myself, nor did I try to find any confirmation, because the events of my life distracted me from this particular event, which became just a memory.
In October 2004 I happened to notice a poster inviting all those interested to a conference on “The Experience of the Spirit in Our Time”. Being interested and having the time, I went to the place indicated. When the speaker, Master Pier Franco Marcenaro, arrived on the stage, I saw him and I immediately recognized that he was the unknown Gentleman who had appeared in my spiritual vision twenty years earlier. It was truly a wonderful surprise.
I then attended the Course that was offered at the conference. When Pier Franco Marcenaro came the first time to give a lesson at the Course for initiation into meditation, I had the opportunity to be near him and asked this question, “How did you recognize Your Master?” He answered me, “I was called. My Master had chosen me.” In that instant I realised that the same thing had happened to me, “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and I have appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that is everlasting.” (John 15:16) It was an inevitable rendezvous. Then I asked the Lord, my God, to give me the necessary help to meet this new experience that had been presented to me.
I have only to thank the Lord because He is good and because His Mercy is eternal.

Conferences
Since 1974 he has held an intense schedule of Talks and Conferences on spiritual themes, which in Italy are under the auspices of Municipalities, Provinces and Regions, as testament of his growing fame and authority. He has extensively presented the advantages of Universal Meditation, being the guest of prestigious Auditoriums and Universities both in Italy and abroad.[27]
He chaired three editions of the “World Conference for the Peace and Welfare of Peoples” in 1999, 2002 and 2005, held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs respectively,[28] of the European Commission[29] and of the United Nations Organization (U.N.).[30]
Important personalities of the religious, political, artistic and cultural world coming from every Continent have taken part in the Conferences. The Final Reports were sent to the governments of the world's major nations.[31][32][33][34][35][36]
The then President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, also expressed his deep appreciation.
Text of the message of appreciation and best wishes of the President of the Italian Republic, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi
29 June 2002
Rome, Quirinale
To Pier Franco Marcenaro, President of “Man Center”
The President of the Republic of Italy expresses deep appreciation for the second World Conference for the Peace and Welfare of Peoples. The future of the planet, the global balance of the new century, and peace among peoples largely depend on the international community's ability to safeguard the environment, establish a dialog between cultures and religions, and win the fight against poverty, ensuring balanced growth, throughout the world, in accordance with the principles of human rights.
With this in mind, the Head of State sends the organizers, distinguished speakers and attendees friendly greetings and wishes them every success in their work.
Since the discipline of Universal Meditation taught by Master Pier Franco has a scientific basis, in October 2016 he successfully presented its benefits to the “National Research Council” (CNR) in Pisa with the “Science and Meditation” Talk.[37][38][39]
Books and publications
He is the author of 12 books on spiritual subjects, translated into 15 languages, as well as articles, CDs, DVDs.
The periodical entitled “The Source” publishes his talks in Italian and English, which today number more than 4,000.
His publications have been published in over one million copies.[40]
His book “The School of Spirituality”, published in 15 languages, is a best seller, now in its eighth edition.[41]
The monthly magazine of SOLE 24 ORE, “L’Impresa” of November 2016 published his long talk “The Capacity of Spirituality” on the advantages of meditation for those who wish to manage a company more successfully, favoring human and spiritual values.[42]
Man Center
He is the Director of Man Center, a Non-Profit Organization of Social Utility (Onlus) and a Voluntary Organization (ODV), founded in 1974 although officially registered in 1977.[43]
The Association is engaged in projects on a global scale to support marginalized groups and developing peoples and to promote intercultural and interreligious dialog based on elevated human, social and spiritual values.[44]
Among the most important initiatives is “Wells and Villages in Sinai”, an international project launched in 2017 and still under way, which involves the excavation of water wells, the restructuring of housing in critical conditions and direct aid to support local communities.[45]
Man Center also works for the preservation and enhancement of Nature and for popularizing the vegetarian diet that respects the animal world, favors spiritual research and is recognized as the most suitable diet to keep the body healthy.[46]
At the Man Center headquarters in the Monastery of Sargiano [also on Wikipedia], and in the surrounding Naturalistic Area of Sargiano Woods [also on Wikipedia], marches are organized to increase public awareness of respect for nature and the environment, non-violence and world peace, with numerous participants coming from the major Italian cities and from abroad.[47]
On the occasion of the “March for the Protection of Animals and the Environment” on 15 April 2001, he sent a “Guide, or 10-Point Program” to the Mayors of the major Italian cities and to the Ministers of the major foreign countries to be implemented on a global scale as recognition of animal rights and the imperative need to respect the environment, with the request to include this topic as a subject of study in all schools.[48] This was very much in advance of the many world movements that would follow.
World Interreligious Center
Since 1999 Pier Franco Marcenaro has been the President of the World Interreligious Center, a non-profit organization with representatives of different religious traditions on all the Continents, which aims to promote intercultural and interreligious dialog and the well-being of humanity through the rediscovery of the highest spiritual and social values. The World Interreligious Center holds meetings and seminars on the topics of world peace and welfare, sending the conclusions to the political and religious leaders of the world’s major countries.[49]
Art, Science and Peace Prize
Since 2002 he has been the President of the Jury that awards the Triennial “Art, Science and Peace Prize”, given to personalities of the Arts and Sciences who have particularly distinguished themselves for their message in favor of peace and the well-being of humanity. The prize has been awarded to: the actor and director Roberto Benigni, tenor Andrea Bocelli, director Franco Zeffirelli, Professor Umberto Veronesi and writer and essayist Fernanda Pivano.[51] [52]
